Scuba diving cost in Bali: courses, fun dives & the real all-in price

Published June 10, 2026·8 min read

Bali is one of Asia's best-value dive destinations, but the headline price rarely tells the whole story. Here's the real, all-in cost of diving in Bali.

Bali sells itself as cheap, warm and beginner-friendly — and for diving, that reputation is mostly earned. You can get certified, dive the famous USAT Liberty wreck and drift past mola mola sunfish without spending a fortune. But Bali's dive sites are spread across the island, and the gap between the price you see online and the price you actually pay often comes down to one thing: transfers. Here's what diving in Bali really costs in 2026.

Open Water certification in Bali

A full Open Water Diver course in Bali typically runs somewhere in the €300–€450 range, depending on the operator, the location and how much is bundled. That is more than rock-bottom Koh Tao, but Bali offers more varied diving and a gentler pace for nervous beginners. Tulamben and Amed in the northeast are popular learning bases because the Liberty wreck sits in shallow, accessible water right off the beach.

How to read a Bali course price

Courses are often quoted excluding transfers and accommodation. Tulamben is roughly a two-to-three hour drive from the airport and southern resorts, so a 'cheap' course in the north can cost more once you add the ride. Always ask whether pickup is included, and check live verified prices on DiveCost.

Fun dives and day trips

Already certified? Bali shines for fun divers. A two-tank day trip generally lands in the €60–€110 range per person, including tanks, weights, guide and usually lunch. Boat trips to Nusa Penida for manta rays and mola mola sit at the higher end because of the longer crossing and stronger currents — those are not beginner dives, and a good guide is worth paying for.

The Liberty wreck and shore diving

One reason Bali stays affordable is that much of its best diving is from shore, not boats. The Liberty wreck at Tulamben is a shore dive, which keeps the per-dive cost down. If you are buying a multi-dive package, shore-based days are usually the cheapest.

Open Water Diver coursetransfers often extra€300–€450
Fun dive (2-tank day, shore/local)€60–€90
Nusa Penida day trip (boat)manta & mola season€90–€130
Equipment rental (full set, per day)€10–€25
First-timer week, all-inbudget €500–€900

The hidden costs to budget for

  • Transfers — the single biggest surprise in Bali. Dive sites can be hours apart.
  • Marine park or local entrance fees at some sites (small, but add up).
  • Nitrox, if you want it, is usually a per-dive surcharge.
  • Tips for guides and boat crew are customary and not in the headline price.
  • Accommodation near dive bases vs. staying in the tourist south — factor the trade-off.

Bali sits in the same value bracket as Southeast Asia's other big names. If you are comparing, read our Thailand & Koh Tao cost guide and our Philippines cost guide before you commit.

Is Bali worth it?

For variety, Bali is excellent value: wrecks, drift dives, muck diving and big pelagics all on one island. It is rarely the absolute cheapest place to certify, but the all-in cost stays reasonable if you plan around transfers and stay near your dive base. The mistake people make is booking a bargain course in the north while sleeping in the south, then paying for a driver every single day.

Before you book anything, it is worth understanding what an all-inclusive dive price actually covers and the hidden costs of scuba diving so transfers and fees do not blindside you.

The DiveCost view on Bali

Bali's headline prices are fair — it is the geography that bites. We track all-in prices that account for the realities of getting to the water, not just the dive itself, so you compare like for like.

Bottom line: Bali is a genuine value destination, but build your trip around your dive sites, not the other way round. Get the transfers right and the rest is some of the best-value diving in Asia.
